Actress, filmmaker will present documentary on Pakistan

By Michael Janusonis Actress and filmmaker Ayesha Khan will present her documentary “Made in Pakistan” at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Granoff Center, 154 Angell St., Providence. It’s part of a five-city nationwide tour. The film follows four young Pakistani professionals during Pakistan’s state of emergency in 2007, showing a country where one definition of an Islamic state no longer holds true. The screening, with a Q&A session to follow, is presented by FirstWorks as part of the yearlong Caravanserai project — introducing American audiences to Sufi artists, filmmakers and musicians through a series of intensive community engagement and performance programs. FirstWorks is one of five regional presenting organizations for the project. Khan, the executive producer of “Made in Pakistan,” also will take part in a panel discussion with local filmmakers at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Granoff Center. Tickets are free to both presentations, but due to seating limitations may be reserved at first-works.org. This project is an initiative of the Doris Duke Foundation for Islamic Arts, administered by Arts Midwest.
